The Basics of Keyword Research

Often, before publishing content we either do not perform any keyword research, or perform it on a so and so basis. Therefore we don't give us a chance to get free traffic from search engines. In is this post I will hope to explain briefly how to plan and organize your keyword research.

Many of us make the mistake of assuming that a ranking for one generic term related to their site will turn their website into a profitable success. However, it is a fact that targeting multiple terms will not only drive traffic, but also lead to that all-important conversion.

Good planning and a systematic approach to get the best results from your keyword research can only do this. Here's a brief outline how you should approach the challenge of keyword research.

Because you’re using the Wonder Wheel to analyze keyword relationships for site structuring, the obvious place to start is with your site keyword – or the topic for your site.

From there, the “branches” off the keyword may be logical category ideas – the branches off them may be logical subcategories – and so-on.

(Obviously, by then analyzing the traffic, value and competition around the keywords in Market Samurai – and focusing on high traffic, low competition, high value keywords – you’ll be able to focus your site structure onto the most profitable keywords.)
